The FIM Endurance World Championship will be contested by several rookie riders in 2025, including this multi-lingual teenage talent from Switzerland.
Name: Kylian Nestola
Born: 28/02/2006
Country: Switzerland
Team: JMA Racing Action Bike
Motorcycle: Suzuki GSX-R
Category: Superstock
Who? Second-generation competitor Kylian Nestola, who was inspired to take up racing by his father, has battled injury and financial setbacks to secure a place in JMA Racing Action Bike’s Dunlop-equipped FIM Endurance World Cup line-up for 2025.
What’s he done before? Nestola graduated through the Swiss championship ranks, beating adult rivals to the runner-up spot in the Swiss Minibike Championship in 2018 before becoming Swiss champion at 160cc Pit-Bike level the following year. He spent an injury-hit season in Italy in 2020, while his move to the FIM JuniorGP Stock 600 in 2022 was also hampered due to being injured.
Why EWC? “I like challenges and I want to race in a world championship. I did FIM JuniorGP in Stock 600 and got some top 10s but the only way I saw to get into a world championship and a professional career was the EWC, which is very good, and because Moto2 is not cheap.”
How did he get here? “I used a fishing technique. I contacted a lot of teams, I kind of wrote to every team in the championship and, fortunately, JMA gave me an opportunity.”
What does he know about the challenge of EWC? “I know it’s hard because I already talked to [fellow Swiss racer] Robin Mulhauser, because I know him, and I also got to talk to Illya Mykhalchyk, because we were training at the same place. I also know Alex Toledo and he told me it was hard. But I like challenges and if I can get myself to the top I have to face challenges and I’m not really afraid of that. But I’ve never ridden on the EWC tracks on a 1000cc bike.”
What’s the target for 2025? “I know it’s not the main aim in endurance, but I want to be faster than my team-mates and prove myself as a young guy, that would be cool. But the team wants to get into the top five in Superstock so I have to try to help them with that.”
What does Nestola do when he’s not racing? “I had to drop out of college because where I live in Switzerland motorcycle racing isn’t considered an Olympic sport so they wouldn’t give me the time off to train. Even though I was one of the best students with the best grades when I was 15 years old, I had to drop out. Now I am working part-time in a construction job, a painter, so I can get myself a bit of money. And when I can put some money aside I go to Spain to train with Pedro Acosta’s trainer.”
And how many languages can he speak? “I come from Fribourg, which is on the border of the German part and the French part of Switzerland. If I drive two minutes one way everybody speaks German and if I drive two minutes the other way everyone speaks French. I learned Italian from the Italian championship when I was younger and I also have Italian origins. I was born with an Italian passport because my dad is an immigrant from Italy. I learned English alone, it’s kind of easy for me to learn language, and I learned Spanish this way. It helps a lot in racing to speak different languages.”
Nestola will begin his EWC adventure in the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans in France next month (17-20 April). Click HERE for ticket information.
